Puzzles: Engaging Adult Learners

Submitted by Olga Scherbina on May 17, 2019 – 10:27 amNo Comment | 1,131 views

At DiversityCLUES, we utilize creativity and challenge conventional adult-learning methods not only in the curriculum design. We experiment with learning tools for training participants. Crossword puzzles are proven to be simple and creative tools to activate learning and increase engagement of adult learners regardless of the subject.

The first crossword in the US was published in the New York World 1913; however, puzzles have been observed  in different forms since Egyptian times. A number of studies have shown that puzzles benefit learners in a number of different ways:

  • Introducing and Reinforcing Concepts
  • Identifying Gaps in Learning
  • As a Motivational Tool
  • Reviewing and Testing Knowledge
  • Developing Teamwork Skills
