About 150 Richmond’s residents took part in a city-run workshop on March 12, 2015 at the UBC Boathouse. Chinese only signs have long been a subject of contaversy in Richmond. Participants discuss how foreign signs (predominantly, in Chinese) affect the sense of belonging and cross-cultural communications.

The discussion was held about whether a sign bylaw should be considered by City Council. The majority agreed that such a bylaw maybe an effective way in solving the sign problem but also suggested that more education in community and political leadership is needed.
