Community Leadership & Migrant Experiences

Submitted by Olga Scherbina on July 22, 2019 – 7:52 amNo Comment | 629 views

MOSAICOn May 24, 2019, MOSAIC hosted a forum aimed to initiate a conversation with MOSAIC’s clients, stakeholders and partners about Community Leadership & Migrant Experiences.

Diversity CLUES’ services were retained to produce a report summarizing the findings from the forum. Olga Shcherbyna also acted in an advisory capacity during the ideation process in the spring of 2019 to identify the goals and key players for the forum.

Attended by over 70 participants, the event brought together community members with diverse backgrounds and opinions, from elected officials to local newcomer and longer- term residents. The forum was facilitated by Jorge Salazar, a community activist and a Founding Manager of the Fresh Voices [a refugee youth advocacy group] and Ninu Kang, MOSAIC’s Director, Communications and Development.

The findings from the forum informed the development of a new MOSAIC’s programming aimed to increase immigrants’ civic engagement capacities and their knowledge in board governance. In 2020, MOSAIC successfully launched the project titled SCENE (Social and Civic Engagement for Newcomers and Immigrants).
